SPEAK TO YOURSELVES !!

“… teaching and admonishing one an- other in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.” - Colossians 3:16

Perhaps the most important Scripture for Christians who desire to be filled with the Spirit is Ephesians 5:18. It is the Scripture that tells us how Christians can be continually filled, empowered and influenced by the Holy Spirit. According to this landmark Scripture, the first thing you must do if you want to be filled with the Spirit is to speak to yourself through a song, a hymn or a psalm.
The key words here are “speak to yourself ”. Think about it. Many of the songs that are sung in churches do not speak to us because we cannot hear the words. Even when we can hear the words, the words do not edify or minister grace to us. If you want people to be filled with the Spirit through your music ministry, it is important that the words are powerful and that they speak to our hearts. Often, musicians put together Christian phrases, which they think are the right things to be said.
Unfortunately, joining words together or putting Christian slogans into a song does not constitute a message. These things do not speak to us! We need something that will speak to us. It is only someone who is close to the Lord who can speak or minister through his songs. People who do not know the Lord can only join catchphrases, rhyming words and Christian slogans together. You must have singers who speak through their songs.
